Our mother…

Our mother…

Dear sis, This morning I was so happy to hear from you and Brian.  I love when the three of us have our moments together. Our brothers sense of humour has certainly made us laugh over the years.  Even this morning, during FaceTime, when he said, “See Kathy, you and your stories are making Karen fall asleep again.” As mentioned on the phone this morning, I came across our mothers eulogy.  The one that Brian wrote and read,  when he…

Lorraine…

Dear sis, Yesterday, when I was out on my walk, I noticed several elderly people, shovelling their driveways.  Not easy.   Vancouver Island never gets this amount of snow.  When I got home I said to Jenna, “Go out with two shovels and a friend and go see if there is anyone out there that needs help with their driveways.”  She was excited to help and because I told her she “may” make a few bucks.   She went out…

Staying connected….

Staying connected….

Dear Sis, I was thinking about you this morning, as I powered walked through my neighbourhood.    Ways for us to stay connected.    One way of course is the phone.   That is why it is important for your answering machine to always work.  So when I call,  you can hear my voice. Staying connected through my blog is another way.   I am going to ask friends to read them to you.  I know that people will welcome…

The journey continues…

The journey continues…

Dear Sis, As I sit in the Toronto airport – my return flight is on the “milk run” – it is a 14 hour travel day for me to get from Ottawa to Vancouver Island.   Total flight time direct is usually 4.5 hours.  I guess I wasn’t paying attention to this flight change when the airlines made the change from my initial departure day (yesterday) to leaving today.   I made the change rather quickly so I could stay…

Perspective…

Dear sis, I just returned from visiting you at St. Vincent’s hospital.    Our brother Brian – Sergeant Samuel – just left to work the night shift – and his wife Lesley is downstairs getting the house ready for their Super Bowl party on Sunday. As I walked through the door this evening, all I wanted to do was write – blog – about this incredible lady we – you, your daughter Samantha and I – met tonight in the…

No list to check off…..

No list to check off…..

Dear sis, I am grateful for these days where I am not feeling like everything in this moment is urgent.   I am usually one who needs to keep checking things off her list.   But discovering how to relax and simply being in the moment, is pretty special. It actually started as soon as I came home from the hospital.   I was so well looked after.   I was forced to slow down.   When Kerri took over…

Back to life, back to my reality….

Back to life, back to my reality….

Dear sis, Every time I say, “Back to Life, back to reality, I sing…”back to the hear and now yeah….however do you want me…:)”.  I know you would too.  That is one thing you always loved.   Singing.  Especially when driving 🙂  You would sing to the top of your lungs.  Not knowing all the words, but you didn’t care.  And when we sang together, if we didn’t know the words, we would simply make them up 🙂 I am…

“Be Happy” New Year 2019…

“Be Happy” New Year 2019…

Dear sis I want you to know that you really do inspire me to write these blogs.   A couple of months ago when a friend got us set up via FaceTime,  I asked if you enjoyed hearing some of my stories.  You “blinked blinked blinked blinked” and of course knowing that is our signal for “yes”,  it made me happy. Well Christmas and New Years’s for me has come and gone, and it is now New Year’s day for…

Recovery time, a gift…..

Recovery time, a gift…..

Dear sis, It has been one week and one day, post my 4 night stay in the hospital. I decided today to blog about Crohn’s disease.    Something I have kept very quiet about in my life.   The reason for doing so,  is that I never wanted to put any energy in to it.  I would rather think of “feeling good” and creating wellness in my life.  So for the last 25 years, it was my choice to live…

Thinking of you JP….

Thinking of you JP….

Dear Sis, As you know I don’t stay home too often.  However lately I have been feeling this is my time to relax a little more.    To nest.   To give myself permission to be lazy. It is late, dark and pouring rain outside.    I can hear it dripping down on my windows.    There is something so cozy about this moment for me.    All I want to do is crawl under a blanket and lie down…
