Celebration of life

Celebration of life

Dear Sis,

There is one event that I absolutely love to revisit and that is your 50th birthday party.   I always refer to it as your “Celebration of life”, with you there.

I remember one day, you and I were once again, sitting in your kitchen, and I was most likely  having a G&T and you a Rum & Diet Coke and you said, “Kathy, if I make it to 50 I want a party!!” Well, a few months before you turned 50,  Brian and I thought, “Let’s do it.  Let’s see what we can pull together.”  So I figured out a way to send an Evite and off it went to family and friends.

Yes, 140 people were in attendance, at the Police Association in Ottawa, to celebrate you sis.

Friends from your childhood and school years, neighbourhood and work friends, friends of our parents (so very special how so many of mom and dad’s friends have stayed in our lives) ex boyfriends (it was so cute to see JP jealous) the wonderful crew from St. Vincents hospital that has become your home and of course so many other people who found their way into your life, because of your very loving and kind way.

It was truly an unbelievable evening.   I placed over 100 pictures in the gallery that is attached to this blog.   Karen, these pictures themselves tell a story.     I truly believe that anyone who looks at them will feel how much emotion and love was in the room that evening.

Not only was that evening about celebrating you, that evening was needed for many people.   I remember looking over and seeing a line of people, all waiting to talk to you.   You could not talk at this time but the look in your eyes said it all.

I personally don’t think there was a better gift you could have received, than having everyone you love in one room.  It was a magical evening.

I love you sis,

Kathy xo
